Fix: No Sound After Installing FxSound
One of the most frequently reported issues after installing FxSound is sudden silence — no audio plays from any application, even though everything worked before installation. This is almost always fixable without uninstalling, and the cause is more straightforward than it seems.
Why this happens
FxSound works by inserting itself into the Windows audio pipeline as a processing layer between your applications and your output device. During installation, Windows sometimes adds or reassigns audio endpoints, which can cause your system's "default" playback device to point somewhere unexpected — even though the device itself is working fine.
Step 1: Open Windows Sound settings
Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar and select "Sound settings" (or open it from Settings → System → Sound). Check which device is listed as your output device.
Step 2: Confirm the correct device is set as default
If you normally use headphones or external speakers but Windows is showing a different device as default, select the correct one from the output dropdown. This single step resolves the issue for most users.
Step 3: Open FxSound and match the device
Open the FxSound application and check its own device selector. It should now match the device you just confirmed in Windows settings. If it shows something different, select the matching device manually.
Step 4: Toggle FxSound off and on
With the correct device selected in both places, toggle FxSound's power switch off, wait a few seconds, then switch it back on. This forces FxSound to re-establish its connection to the audio driver using the corrected device.
Step 5: Test with a simple sound
Play a short video or audio clip to confirm sound has returned. If it has, you're done — no further changes needed.
If sound still doesn't return
Restart your computer. A reboot fully reinitializes the Windows audio stack and resolves cases where a setting change doesn't take effect immediately. If the issue persists after a restart, try running the FxSound installer again and selecting the Repair option, which reinstalls the audio processing component without affecting your existing presets.
